Why we exist

A hand-drawn pencil sketch of your pet — detailed, characterful, beautifully rendered — is one of those things that ends up on a wall and stays there for years.

The problem has always been the price. Commission a skilled UK pencil artist and you're looking at £275 to £1,250, with a wait of four to twelve weeks. The faster alternatives — cartoon filters, digital templates, rushed overseas art — never quite captured what made your pet yours.

We saw a gap and built something to fill it.

What we do differently

The Animal Portrait Co uses AI to create pencil sketch portraits that are detailed, characterful, and genuinely beautiful — at a fraction of the cost of a commissioned piece, ready in days rather than weeks.

We deliberately chose the pencil sketch style because it works. Clean lines, careful shading, a sense of craft — it translates across breeds, ages, and personalities in a way that bolder styles rarely do. Whether you have a scruffy terrier or a sleek Siamese, the result feels considered, not generic.

We're upfront about using AI. For us it's not a shortcut — it's the technology that makes something genuinely different possible: an instant portrait, at an accessible price, with no compromise on quality.

Upload your photo and your pencil sketch portrait is generated in seconds. You see it before you commit to anything. Not quite right? You can regenerate your portrait up to three times directly on the product page until it's exactly what you're after. If you love it, approve it and we'll send it to print. Nothing goes to press until you're happy.

Compare that to waiting 24 hours for an emailed proof, or — in one competitor's case — receiving your order without ever seeing the artwork first. We think you should know exactly what you're getting before you spend a penny.

We print on premium materials — fine art paper, gallery-wrap canvas, solid frames — because the portrait deserves it.

Our portraits work beautifully as gifts (the kind that look like you planned them for months), and we're proud to create memorial portraits too — a way to remember a much-loved pet when a photograph alone isn't enough.
